Prysmian Group and Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) have announced the completion of the submarine interconnection project between the island of Crete and the Peloponnese peninsula, in Greece.  The HVAC (High Voltage Alternating Current) cable system is composed of 135 km of 150 kV three-core cables with XLPE insulation and double-wire armouring. The system was designed, supplied and installed by Prysmian Group.

The first interconnection between Crete and the mainland of Greece is expected to operate in the next few months, removing for the first time the "energy isolation" of the island and ensuring reliable, affordable and sustainable power transmission.
