EDP Renováveis (EDPR) has completed the installation of the two largest and most powerful onshore wind turbines in the Iberian peninsula on its 62 MW Barão São João wind park in Lagos, Portugal.

The initial Lagos project had 25 turbines of 2 MW each and 50 MW of installed capacity. The wind park will reach 62 MW with two new EnVentus V162-6.2 MW wind turbines. EnVentus' 80-m long blades will supply the Portuguese system with roughly 34 GWh of additional renewable energy per year, and the park will produce enough energy to fulfill the electricity demands of approximately 27,000 people.

Extending wind farms increases renewable energy output with minimal environmental and landscape effect. In addition to utilizing the grid connection and existing infrastructure, these projects contribute to the acceleration of the worldwide energy shift.
