Georgia Power secures approval for 65 MW battery energy storage project near Columbus

US utility Georgia Power, a unit of Southern Company, has secured approval for the development of a 65 MW/260 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project near Columbus, USA.

Named as Mossy Branch, the project will be developed in Talbot County. Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved the development, construction and operation of the project. Wartsila Corp has been selected as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the project. 

Once operational, the energy storage system will be connected and charged directly to the electric transmission grid of the Georgia Integrated Transmission System.
