Recurrent Energy secures development approval for Crimson solar with energy storage project in California

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) of the US Interior Department has granted the final development approval to Recurrent Energy for the construction of a utility-scale solar-plus-storage project on public land in California.

Proposed through the Sonoran West Solar Holdings LLC, a unit of Recurrent Energy, the Crimson Solar project will have a 350 MW solar photovoltaic farm and a 350 MW/1,400 MWh energy storage facility, that will generate energy through the Southern California Edison Colorado River Substation. The project will be built on about 2,500 acres of Federal land near Blythe in Riverside County for a total investment of US$500 million. 

Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough power for about 87,500 houses. The battery energy storage system (BESS) is designed to have four hours of storage and discharge duration.
