TotalEnergies, GIG and RIDG secure rights for 2GW offshore wind project in Scotland

The joint venture (JV) between TotalEnergies, Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) and RIDG has secured rights in the N1 area for the development of the 2 GW offshore wind project in the ScotWind leasing round.

Known as West of Orkney Windfarm, the project will be located 30 km off the west coast of Orkney in Scotland. With an estimated investment of more than GBP4 billion (US$5.39 billion), the wind farm is expected to start energy production by 2030. The project is owned by TotalEnergies with 38.25%, GIG with 46.75% and RIDG with 15%.

As part of the project, the JV will unlock a GBP140 million (US$188.76 million) initiative to support the development of the local supply chain, including the enhancement of ports and harbor infrastructure in Orkney and Caithness. In addition, the consortium has undertaken site investigations and finalized a grid connection agreement with National Grid. Once built, the project could also deliver power to the Flotta Hydrogen Hub, a proposed large-scale green hydrogen production facility in Orkney.
