Equinor (formerly Statoil) is a Norwegian multinational energy company headquartered in Stavanger, Norway with operations in thirty-six countries. The firm was formed by the 2007 merger of Statoil with the oil and gas division of Norsk Hydro.
Equinor is the largest operator on the Norwegian continental shelf, with 60% of the total production. In addition to the Norwegian continental shelf, Equinor operates oil and gas fields in Australia, Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Canada, China, Libya, Nigeria, Russia, United States, and Venezuela.
In 2017, the company published a strategy for its transition to a broad energy company with a distinct and competitive portfolio. As well as its oil and gas operations, it also intends to build a material industrial position within profitable renewable energy, and expects to invest 15-20% of total capex in new energy solutions by 2030.
