Equinor ASA and RWE AG have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a strategic partnership to develop hydrogen pipeline flows from Norway to Germany by 2030. Norway is currently Europe's top supplier of natural gas.
Initial fuel for the planned power plants will be natural gas from Equinor, which will be replaced by blue and subsequently green hydrogen. The company will build natural gas-based hydrogen production facilities in Norway with carbon capture and storage (CCS). They will pump hydrogen into a Gassco, Equinor, and third-party-evaluated pipeline to Germany.
The partners want to build offshore wind farms along the pipeline to generate sustainable hydrogen for power and industrial clients.
