EPC contract awarded for the substation of 816 MW Offshore wind project in USA

A consortium formed by GE Renewable Energy’s Grid Solutions and BOND Civil & Utility Construction has been awarded an EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) contract from Empire Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Equinor and bp, to supply a digital onshore substation for the 816 MW Empire Wind 1 offshore project in the USA.

The consortium will be responsible for delivering the onshore substation and interconnection cable in Brooklyn, New York City, as well as designing and supplying the high-voltage electrical systems for the offshore substation.

The 816 MW wind project is developed over an area of 80,000 acres, in federal waters, an average of 20 miles south of Long Island, east of the Rockaways. It has the capacity to generate enough energy to power more than 500,000 New York homes.
