The Vineyard Wind LLC, a joint venture of Avangrid Renewables LLC and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), has started the construction of the 800 MW Vineyard Wind 1 project off the coast of Massachusetts.

The project is the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the United States. Located in waters 15 miles off Martha’s Vineyard, near Cape Cod in Massachusetts, the offshore wind farm is anticipated to start sending power to the grid in 2023. The Vineyard Wind 1 project will use 62 Haliade-X turbines supplied by General Electric. The offshore wind farm will produce enough electricity for over 400,000 homes and businesses.
