The local energy authority of the Extremadura region in Spain has approved the development of the 49.5 MW Merengue II wind farm project in the Caceres province as proposed by the project developer, Naturgy Renovables SLU, a unit of Spanish power and gas utility Naturgy Energy Group SA.

In early March, the Ministry for Ecological Transition has granted administrative authorization and the declaration of the public utility to the Merengue II project which has secured a favorable environmental impact assessment.

The facility will have 11 three-sided wind turbines of 4.5 MW of unitary power installed in the municipality of Plasencia. It will require an estimated investment of about EUR39.9 million (US$44.7 million).
