The General Directorate of Sustainability of Extremadura autonomous community has issued positive feedback for the environmental impact statement of the proposed 49.5 MW Merengue II wind park in the municipality of Plasencia, Caceres province.

The Merengue II wind park will consist of 11 wind turbines, owned by Naturgy Energy Group SA.

Merengue II has originally planned to use 15 3.3-MW wind turbines, with 155 meters of the rotor diameter and 132 meters high hub, and decide to use 11 three-sided wind turbines of 4.5 MW of unitary power.

Naturgy is required to install an automatic bird-in-flight detection system on one of the turbines, dubbed A-12.
