Iberdrola has secured approval for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) application for the development of the 70 MW Iglesias wind farm located in the province of Burgos in Castilla y León, Spain.
The project represents a EUR70 million (US$76.58 million) investment in the province. The project will consist of turbines from Siemens Gamesa's 5.X platform. Once commissioned, it is expected to generate enough power for up to 66,000 homes per year and will prevent about 32,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Iberdrola has fully integrated ecosystem conservation into its strategy, demonstrating that the supply of competitive, clean, and sustainable energy can coexist with environmental balance. In this way, the company continues to implement solutions to promote the coexistence of renewable facilities and the habitats in which they are developed. Iberdrola will implement a number of initiatives at this wind farm to improve the visibility of its wind turbines and discourage the presence of certain bird species in the area, including the installation of bird detection equipment to avoid collisions.
